Amazon Frontlines (www.amazonfrontlines.org) is a U.S. 501c3 organization based in the Western Amazon that works alongside Indigenous Peoples to advance indigenous rights and autonomy, defend indigenous rainforest territories and cultures, and protect some of the most biodiverse rainforest on Earth.

Position Overview

We seek an innovative and passionate Development Coordinator to assist and advance our fundraising efforts at a time of upward growth and major visibility for Amazon Frontlines. As part of a dynamic and committed fundraising team, the Development Coordinator is responsible for supporting the organization’s strategies to engage institutional funders, secure major gifts, and grow online revenue, while ensuring the seamless functioning of back-end management systems. This position will work closely with Amazon Frontlines’ Executive Director and Deputy Director, and reports to the Development Manager.

Essential Duties + Scope:

Individual Donor Management (Major Gifts and Mid-Level Donations)

  • Support the development and implementation of a comprehensive individual giving strategy in collaboration with the Executive Director, Deputy Director and Board of Directors.
  • Support the Executive Director, Deputy Director and Board to manage and ensure the most strategic use of their leadership and involvement in major gift stewardship, solicitation and recognition, including any support needed to complete cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
  • Assist the Deputy Director to develop a “donor club” that recognizes and encourages multi-year giving from individual donors ($25K and above).
  • Work with the Development Manager and Deputy Director to build out an “ambassador” program to leverage individual connectors within the AF network and activate them as fundraisers (with specified targets/commitments) on AF’s behalf.
  • Support implementation of the major gifts effort, including donor prospecting, identification, research, qualifying, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major donors (gifts of $1,000+).
  • Help AF grow and steward a mid-level donor portfolio (gifts ranging from $1K to 10K) of individual donors and partner with the Development Manager to build long-term relationships with growing list of individual donors.
  • Work closely with Online Organizer to transition $1K+ digital donors into the major gifts pipeline and portfolio.
  • Use “moves management” strategies, track all actions in the CRM database, and complete timely and accurate reports following interactions with donors.
  • Work with Development and Communications team to produce engaging written communications and donor presentations that creatively tell Amazon Frontlines’ story, including the development of compelling donor email appeals throughout the year that leverage key moments of the organization’s need and/or success.
  • Use metrics to measure annual and multi-years goals and progress to plan.


Institutional Fundraising and Grants Management

  • Develop first draft proposals and grant reports with guidance from the Development Manager.
  • Develop communications content (emails, pitch decks, strategy briefs) for institutional funders.
  • Partner with the Development Manager to research new prospective institutional funders and manage the prospects database.


Event Management

  • Help organize virtual/in-person small-group fundraisers and support signature fundraising events
  • Work with the Executive Director and Development Manager to develop and recruit host committees for events, including ongoing cultivation of hosts via timely communications and stewardship.
  • Assist in identifying and soliciting donors for matching gift funds for events as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Development team to ensure post-event engagement strategies support major gift activities.
  • Administration of events, include confirmation emails, calendar invites and follow up to event hosts and attendees.
  • Provide hands-on assistance as needed immediately before, during, and after signature fundraising events.
  • Attend all donor engagement events, stewardship events, and house parties.


Administrative & Other Teamwide Responsibilities

  • Annual development work planning and reviews, including Major Donor and Event strategy supported with annual revenue forecast creation.
  • Maintain up-to-date documents on the organization’s database and donor records, including moves management, within the CRM.
  • Monthly/quarterly revenue reconciliation.
  • Participate in staff meetings, planning days and org-wide trainings.
  • Participate in professional fundraising training opportunities.
  • Record and acknowledge incoming donations by check to the organization.

Qualifications & Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; master’s degree a plus
  • 2+ years of experience as a professional fundraiser, preferably with environmental or human rights background
  • Comfortable implementing a comprehensive annual program that uses a moves management approach leading to successful gift closings
  • Experience leading robust annual and year-end appeals and stewardship with measurable goals for total revenue, meeting benchmarks for number of engagements and solicitations
  • Proven track of effectively soliciting small and mid-size gifts and working with family foundations with thoughtful, well planned and nuanced strategic and tactical thinking; legacy giving experience plus
  • Excellent donor research skills and experience researching funding trends and identifying new opportunities to effectively link to mission
  • Experience maintaining excellent donor records in a CRM system and generating detailed reports
  • Experience managing and fulfilling donor benefits and overseeing individual donor recognition across various platforms
  • Highly organized and systems oriented
  • Ability to write persuasively
  • Strong communications and listening skills
  • Google Suite, mail merge software a plus
  • Self-directed individual with ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Experience working with people from different backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to maintain poise, discretion and professionalism in all circumstances
  • Bilingual English and Spanish-speaking preferred
  • California-based preferable, not required
